Tarpon have finally shown up in the Everglades and 10,000 Islands in earnest. We have been finding the Silver Kings in the backcountry as well as a few fish migrating up the beaches. Leslie from across the pond (Ireland) shows off a hefty snook!

When the sun drops into the gulf, snook began to prowl the myriad of resdential canals and docks in search of easy prey. Dock lights throughout Naples and Marco Island attract hordes of baitfish which in turn attracts hungry snook , trout, jacks and tarpon! this is sightcasting heaven! Don’t be fooled as these fish can be extremely wary and a match the hatch type presentaion for both fly and spin fishing is a must! Don’t miss out on some awesome nighttime action!

Naples Fishing Charters and the Straw Boss Fly!

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to fish with a good friend Joe Mahler. Joe is an extremely talented illustrator and is responsible for the logo for Naples Backcountry Fishing! His illustrations have appeared in many national fishing publications and he has a fantastic book on knots and rigs! His book, Essential Knot and Rigs For trout is a must read and features incredible how-to’s for knots and rigging leaders. Aside from illustrator and writer, Joe also offers expert casting lessons which is a must for travelling anglers looking to tighten up those loops or gain a little extra distance. The real reason I bring up my friend Joe though is his incredible fly th Straw Boss! This unique little fly, originally designed for bass, has quickly become my got to for snook and reds. Several of the fish I have recently posted pictures of fell prey to this deadly little creation. Tie some up and try for yourself, you will not be diappointed!

Naples Fishing Charters heads North to Estero Bay for Some Awesome Sight Fishing!

Had a chance to fish with long time fly client Terry today and Estero Bay did not disappoint! We saw lots of monster snook and countless reds in the back country. Fish were spooky until the tide started to come in. Using a copper spoon fly, terry manged to sight cast this bruiser 34″ snook, his personal best!
